Installing a TV Wall Bracket Above the Fireplace

A good thing about a flat screen is the variety of places you can hang the screen, including a rough stone surface. Putting the screen on top of a fireplace frees up space in the area and adds some class to the room's atmosphere. It is just as simple as installing a TV wall bracket on a wooden wall or smooth cement finish. The same safety precautions should be followed regardless of the location of the wall brackets. Once you have decided that the rough stone surface is the ideal location for your LCD TV, check in the hardware store on the correct mounting devices. The television package may contain a wall mount but it might not be applicable to your final location. It is best to select your own TV brackets since you can specify the condition of the wall and see the displays on how the TV brackets will fit on the wall. Have an electrician help you with the wiring if necessary.

Mounting a TV above a fireplace should be high enough for easy viewing from 10 feet away. This is because the fireplace limits the screen from being placed at eye level. If the TV screen can be mounted at eye level, then the 10 foot rule does not apply. Use a tilt mount so the TV screen can be adjusted to face down for comfortable viewing. Use a static flat wall mount or tilt mount for the stone wall. Check the TV manual for recommendations on wall mounts. It may seem cozy watching your favorite show while having a fire to keep you warm but consider the heat coming out of the fireplace. Check the recommended temperatures before installing the mounts. Start a fire and take temperature readings at different levels above the fireplace. Once you find a location that has the acceptable temperature, mark it with indelible markings. Visualize the TV screen in that location while sitting in your couch. If your couch is in the right location in the room, you may have to move the indelible marks to a different place. Take measurements of the distance of the couch to the wall and height of the TV screen.

When you go to the hardware, ask the attendants if they have displays similar to your measurements. They might be able to do some minor installations to help you get a better feel of the viewing aspects. You should also consider facilities to hide the wires from view. The place looks more professional and neat if you don't see the wires running all over the place. There are adhesive tapes and other accessories that you can use to disguise the cables from view. Another option would be to install an electrical wall box behind the TV or run wires through the wall to the available electrical outlets.

Be sure you have all the tools for installing the wall mount. The standard tools would be a masonry drill, wall anchors such as raw bolts and concrete sleeve anchors, a level and eye protection goggles. Place the mounting hardware on your previously marked places and see how it appears. Finalize the markings by using a level to make sure the TV wall bracket will be straight. Drill mounting holes equivalent to the size of the anchors that will be used. Insert the anchors firmly into the drill holes. Fix the TV wall brackets to the correct position and screw them to the wall. Hang the television to the mount and lock the safety tabs in place. That should secure the TV from slipping and falling off the mount. Be sure the cables are wiring are in place before mounting the TV set.

Once you decide where to mount the LCD TV, you might consider concealing the audio and video cables and power cord to make things look neat and orderly. Some wall mounts have peripheral cable boxes that can be placed below them. Most people prefer running the wires along the wall. There are wire covers with strong adhesive that can stick the wires to the wall. You can color the wire covers with a color similar to the wall to make the covers blend with the wall. If the wall bracket provided in the package is specific to the TV model, you might have to replace the TV bracket with another one designed for the new TV. Try using the universal mount so you don't have to concern yourself with changing TV wall brackets every time you change TVs.

When assembling the TV bracket, attach a horizontal support to a wall angle module using two bolts, four lock washers, and two nuts. A lock washer should be next to each bolt head and each nut, to ensure the bolts are secured and will not loosen. Tighten the nuts using the Allen wrench on the hole in the head of the bolt and the open-end wrench on the nut. Do this process for all corners, and make sure both wall angle modules are oriented the same direction, with the slot in the mounting hole to the bottom. Be sure there is nothing breakable or risky below the area where you will place the TV wall bracket. No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen and the TV might fall off the wall brackets and damage anything below it.

When constructing a house, the architect sets the studs a standard distance apart from each other. Once you locate a stud, it may be easy finding the location of the other studs. Use a stud finder to facilitate the work. Use a level to ensure the TV bracket is level and straight. There are different TV wall brackets and you should find one that fits the distances of your studs. Securing the TV bracket to the studs ensures it is firm and will not give way to the weight of the TV. Mark the location of the eight holes you will be using for the lag bolts. Use the electric drill to drill small holes in the marked positions. The drilled holes should be smaller than the size of the bolts. All eight holes should be firmly embedded in the center of the studs. Position the TV wall bracket over the holes, with its flat side against the wall, and attach the TV brackets to the wall.

Attaching the LCD TV bracket to a concrete or brick wall is a similar process. You will use cement anchors instead of lag bolts when attaching the TV wall brackets to the cement wall. Avoid using holes that are closer than two inches from a mortar joint. If the holes are close to a joint, the anchors may become loose. Insert the anchors in the holes and set them with a concrete anchor tool and hammer. Be sure everything is firmly screwed in and securely in place. Test your installation by pulling on the brackets carefully and check if the connections feel loose.

Get some people to help hold the LCD TV in place while you attach it to the TV wall mount. A flat panel screen can be very heavy depending on its size. The TV wall mount may have inclination holes and bolts to adjust the angle of the TV. Be sure the holes and bolts on both sides of the TV mount are matched on the same angle; otherwise the TV will be uneven. Once the angle is fixed, tighten all the bolts and screws that should be fixed and immovable. Make sure all bolts and screws are tight every step of the way.

The AS3S is a tri-shelf cable management system. It can be used with or without a Plasma/LCD mount. This unit is designed to fit under your display and provide an on wall solution for other components such as cable boxes, DVD players, game consoles, and stereo components. There are three 2.25-Inch holes on the aluminum plate that allow you to cleanly run your cables up to your TV or down to another component, as well as out the bottom to an outlet. Choosing a new plasma or LCD flat screen television can be a long process. Technological advances mean that there are a lot of factors to consider when making a choice. For many of us its totally baffling.

Two main choices face you at this stage and they are - floor or wall?

There are some very smart TV stands available now if you want to have your TV in a corner of the room. Many have cable management which helps to keep everything tidy. If you do decide to go for wall mounting then you will need to get the right mounting brackets. Flat screen televisions are heavy items and it is essential that they are properly secured. They can be a serious hazard if the job is not done correctly.

Basically there are three types of mounting brackets for flat screen TVs.

Fixed brackets are relatively easy to install but you cannot adjust the angle of the screen. As the name suggests they are fixed. This is the cheapest option generally speaking.

Tilting brackets are also fairly easy to install but may cost a little more than fixed brackets. The advantage of these is that they allow for vertical adjustment of the screen. This gives greater flexibility about where you view the screen from. In other words you can lie on the floor or sit in a chair and adjust the angle accordingly.

Articulated mounting brackets for flat screen TVs offer significant advantages over fixed and tilting. The angle of the screen can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally as the screen can be moved away from the wall when required. Despite this they are unobtrusive when the screen is returned to its basic position. Some of these brackets even allow you to move the screen around a corner!

As you would expect articulated brackets cost more. When you consider though how much you have spent on your new TV it may be worth the extra to get the very best out of it.

With any of these options you should obviously only attempt to do the job yourself if you are absolutely sure that you are able to do it properly. If not then get advice or get someone in to do it for you; there is no shortage of small firms who will do this type of installation for a reasonable cost.

Traditional TV stands and racks are now replaced with TV brackets. As science and technology brought modern appliance and changed our homes and public places environment, there was a need of change in the installation and setup of modern TV sets. So TV brackets have the ability to make a good solution for our expensive and advance TV sets.

Five Step Installations

Choose a suitable location to mount your TV set. A location which is suitable and don't interfere with the room's interior decoration. If your chosen location already has a cable chasing point available, you can use it. In other cases, you have two options, either to make new chasing to hide the cable or to use a cable management. New chasing will cost you a new wall plaster and decoration set up. There are three type of cable management products are available. The wall cable cover, angled wall cable cover and cable sock could be used as a cable management solution. Now we have things set up and can go to mount the wall bracket. Mark the location and check the exact alignment with the help of level. Alignment is very important otherwise you will notice this mistake at the end of the work. And it will look non professional work. Using the stud finder, mark the points to be drilled. Drill the holes on these points according to the size of bolts. You will need the bit, same in the size of the bolt. Re check the level before installing the bracket. Now everything is up and brings the bracket to fix in the wall. Using socket wrench, tighten the bolts to secure the bracket in the wall. Note that you should install washers with bolts.

This method could also be used for the angled wall brackets, tilting wall brackets, ceiling brackets, speaker brackets and desktop monitor brackets.

Choosing the Best TV Wall Bracket

The first thing to decide is where you want to mount your TV. If it is going to be at eye level and right in front of where you always sit then a flat bracket will be fine, these keep your TV very close to the wall giving that "picture frame" look. Do bear in mind there isn't room behind them to put your cables from the TV so they will either have to be hidden in the wall or you can purchase cable covers that simply fit over the cable in black, silver or some that can be painted.

The tilt bracket is ideal when the TV is to be placed above eye level, in the bedroom for example or over a mantlepiece. Most tilt brackets will tilt up to 15 degrees. The majority of tilt TV Wall Brackets will sit your TV approximately three inches from the wall so do not sit as flush as the flat mounts but this does allow more room behind the mounts for cables etc. The tilt has to sit further from the wall to allow it to offer the tilt facility.

The tilt & twist and arm brackets are ideal if you need to move the TV to face different seating positions. These offer full movement and are best suited to alcoves and corners. All of these brackets will pull out into the room and every bracket we sell will tell you all of the measurements of the movement to help you choose the best option for you. All of these brackets will also fold back against the wall but bear in mind due to the arm on them they will not fold back as close to the wall as the flat and tilt models, again, the size of each bracket when flat will be shown in the description. Most arm brackets will sit approximately six inches from the wall when flat.

Many arm and twist brackets will have a built in system for hiding your cables along the arm. Arm brackets are also known as corner brackets as they are perfect when mounting your TV in the corner of the room allowing you to move them out into the room for viewing and then folding them back when not in use.
